New News From Interfilk

May 2, 2009

John Caspell and Brooke Lunderville John Caspell died unexpectedly on May 2, 2009. He was recovering in hospital from broken foot he suffered when the motorcycle he was riding was hit by a drunk driver. His best friend and musical partner, Brooke Lunderville, was with him when he died. The two had spent the afternoon together chatting and joking, anticipating their upcoming concert performance as Interfilk guests at Concertino when John became dizzy, and collapsed into unconsciousness. All attempts to revive him failed.

Brooke posted the news in Live Journal with a request for only happy memories of John. The filk community is stunned and saddened by the loss of John. He was a talented, funny, witty, bright light in our circles, on stage, and in our lives. In keeping with tradition and at Concertino's request, John remains the Interfilk guest for Concertino 2009.

We will miss the joy that was John Caspell.

So read on for the Old News from Interfilkland....

Absent Friends

January 2007 — The filking community is saddened by the loss of three wonderful people: Dick Eney (West Coast), Jack McKenty (Hollywood, CA) and Dave Alway (Ann Arbor, MI). All of these kind, gentle and very talented men will be greatly missed and mourned.

New Interfilk Directors

We're very pleased to announce the addition of two new Interfilk Directors. Juliana McCorison from Victoria, Canada will be recommending filkers from the Pacific Northwest. She has been running a mini-filking convention from her home for many years. And Tim Miller from Texas, who has been organizing filk for FenCon, will be acting as the "At Large" Director. Welcome, Juliana and Tim!

Interfilk Songbook

The most exciting Interfilk news concerns the new Interfilk songbook which premiered at Concord for the 10th anniversary of our organization. We're very proud of the constant and sustaining support shown to Interfilk over the years with generous donations of time, talent, and treasure. So much so, that the committee wished to give something back.

A valiant attempt to contact as many past Interfilk guests produced a massive songbook that includes a song from each guest and notes on the highlights from their Interfilk convention experiences. The list of contributors is impressive, the songs they chose for submission are great, and the final size of the book is a weighty 110 pages.

The Interfilk Songbook is being offered for sale at every filk con this year. Cost of the songbook will vary, convention to convention, depending on the printing costs, but the final price will only cover the cost of production ... we're not looking to make a profit on this one, gang.

After an initial appearance at every con, the songbook file will be placed on the Interfilk website for anyone who wishes to download any part of it.
